About Saint Matthew Catholic School
Saint Matthew is an accredited, co-educational Catholic School located in Williamson County, Tennessee, established in 2001, currently serving 485+ students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. On September 28, 2017, Saint Matthew was named a 2017 National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education under the High Performing School designation, the only Williamson County private school to ever receive this award. In October 2021, and again in August 2024, SMS was named an Apple Distinguished School, one of only 889 schools worldwide to be classified as such.
Meet Our Community Leaders
Home & School Association
The mission of the Saint Matthew Home & School Association is to bring together parents, teachers, parishioners and other patrons of the school in common support of the students, the school itself, the Diocese of Nashville and the Catholic Church.
There are four officers who manage the affairs of the Home & School Association (HSA), along with several committees that assist them. All parents are invited to become a member of the HSA. Dues are $35 per family and are assessed through the FACTS system. Dues cover several events throughout the year such as field trip buses, classroom supplies, teacher birthday gifts, and more. HSA officers also coordinate our Mane Event that raises money to enrich the Saint Matthew experience. Previous projects include purchasing playground equipment and installing turf, installing the middle school courtyard and awning, iPads, the SMS bus, science lab equipment and a fine arts expansion. The 2024-25 HSA Officers are President Mary Beth Hobgood, President Elect Lindsey Smithwick, Treasurer Anna Chamberlain and Secretary Christine Dillmann
Athletic Booster Club
The Saint Matthew Athletic Booster Club (ABC) is a volunteer, parent-driven organization that raises funds to support and enhance SMS Athletics and boosts school spirit throughout the SMS community.
Four ABC officers are in charge of assisting the Athletic Director with special events throughout the year that support SMS Athletics. The SMS ABC hosts the Varsity Athletic Banquet, Trivia Night, sports clinics, and the annual White-Out basketball game.
ABC officers for the 2024-25 year are: President Sean Orlando, Vice President Jimmy Owens, Treasurer Mary Hollister and Secretary Aly Bartell, Membership Experience Sammi Wyatt.
School Board
Saint Matthew School Board is a consultative body whose members lend their expertise to assist both the Principal and the Pastor in the daily operation of the school. The School Board meets monthly throughout the school year and consists of various stakeholders in the Saint Matthew community. Board members monitor policy directives in various domains for the school. In addition to participating in Marketing, Finance, and Facilities Management, the Board was instrumental in initiating the Strategic Plan, which is one of the primary guiding documents used by Saint Matthew over a five year period. Members of the School Board support Saint Matthew in time, talent and treasure and are an integral part of the management of our wonderful institution. The 2023-24 School Board members are Chair – Amy James, Vice Chair – Johanna Brooks, Secretary – Colleen Herndon, Members: Mark Antonini, Phillip Brown, Denise Bowler, Cassie Campbell, Cathleen Coyne, Katy Cassidy, David Lenahan, Trey Moon, Mahsa Tippins, Pastors Justin Raines and Tien Tran, SMS Principal (Anthony Simpson), Vice Principal (Michael LaHaie), and Advancement Director (Lori Bellante), HSA rep (Mary Beth Hobgood), ABC rep (Sean Orlando), Finance Director (Bill Stewart), and Faculty representative (Heather Maguire).
