Admissions

Thank you for your interest in Saint Matthew School.  Students of all faiths and backgrounds are encouraged to apply.  The Admissions process usually begins with a campus visit. We host several fall events for parents and/or families and private tours are also available.  Please use the button on this page to register.

Students who are interested in attending Saint Matthew School are encouraged to submit an application.  There are separate applications for pre-kindergarten, kindergarten and grades 1-8.

Applications for immediate and future enrollment are accepted at any time during the school year.  Applications for pre-kindergarten and kindergarten are strongly encouraged by December 10, 2018.  Students who apply by December 10 will be eligible for their screening appointment in January and be given priority for acceptance.

Admission decisions are made by the Principal based on information submitted with an application.  If no opening is available, students are placed in a waiting pool. Siblings and children of faculty have the highest priority for admission. Participating parishioners of Saint Matthew Church, Holy Family, St. Philip and Church of the Nativity have the next highest priority for admission.  Participating members of other Catholic parishes are next, followed by non-participating Catholics and non-Catholics.

For further information on Admissions, contact Lori Bellante, Advancement Director at 615.550.5106 or via email.

Visit Us

Saint Matthew Church and School are located on a beautiful 16 acre campus on the northwestern corner of Williamson County, bordering on Davidson County.

A visit to our 2017 National Blue Ribbon award winning campus is the best way to experience all that Saint Matthew has to offer.  Our goal is to welcome you into the Saint Matthew community and provide an opportunity to observe “a day in the life of a Saint Matthew student.”

In September and December we host ‘Coffee with the Principal’ events  for prospective parents with children in all grades.  The 90-minute session includes a 30-minute Q&A with Mr. Tim Forbes, Principal, followed by a school tour. The event is designed to provide an overview of our program with a sneak peek into our classrooms.  During the spring semester, families may visit by signing up for a tour via the button below.

In October, we host a school wide open house for families with prospective students in all grades.   This weekend event is held from 12-2:30 p.m. and families may arrive when they choose.  All faculty and administration are on hand for answering questions and providing information.  Families receive a tour from our Student Ambassadors or may elect for a self guided tour.  In addition, our gym is transformed into an information hub, with details on our mission, clubs, athletics, extended care, our lunch program, and volunteer opportunities.

If you are not able to attend a Coffee or Open House event, you may also schedule a tour.  During the spring semester and summer break, please schedule a private tour via the button below by calling our Advancement Office.

Once your child has applied to Saint Matthew, it is recommended that students in grades 4-8 schedule a shadow day, where they can spend time with us one morning, meeting teachers and students in the classroom setting.  Students in grades K-3 may also visit once they have applied, though it is not required.  Contact our Advancement Director, Lori Bellante, at 615-550-5106 or via email at lbellante@stmatthewtn.org to setup a shadow day.

“Let the children come to me, and do not prevent them; for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”  – Matthew 19:14

Saint Matthew is excited and proud to announce the expansion of our inclusive education program.  It is our desire to provide a challenging educational experience for students with developmental delays and/or intellectual disabilities.

Our inclusive education program is led by a certified Special Education teacher.  Our special education teacher provides appropriate academic modifications for each student and is responsible for ensuring that all of the classroom teachers involved are knowledgeable and prepared to educate each student. Each student receives one-on-one instruction in the areas of math, reading, and writing throughout the day. These instructional times are customized to each individual student by our Special Education teacher who provides individualized instruction according to each student’s specific learning needs.

Inclusive education students participate in social studies, religion, science, and enrichment classes (PE, band/choir, art, computer/technology, library, and spanish) within the regular classroom setting. Classroom teachers provide needed instructional accommodations for the inclusive education students.  Ongoing training will be provided by the Special Education teacher who collaborates with the classroom teachers in order to create learning and growth opportunities for the student in all subject areas.

Outside the classroom, students in the inclusive education program are encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities at Saint Matthew. From athletics to arts to service programs, our inclusive education students are encouraged to explore their interests and share their talents.

We believe that our inclusive education program not only provides our special needs students with a loving, Catholic faith filled environment in which to learn, but also instills in our typically-developing students the understanding, acceptance, and love for those with developmental and learning differences. We believe WE ARE BETTER TOGETHER.

Requirements for the Saint Matthew inclusive education program:

  • Students must adhere to all SMS policies as found in the student handbook, such as arrival and dismissal times and procedures, school calendars, dress code, attendance, etc.
  • Parents of our inclusive education students may be asked to participate in class activities or extra-curricular activities, or to accompany their student on SMS sponsored field trips. Exemptions may be made based upon our special education teacher’s recommendation and administrative approval.
  • Medical needs should not require the attention of medically trained staff.
  • Students must be able to independently manage toileting and personal hygiene.
  • Behaviors must not include risk factors (elopement, aggression toward peers or adults, excessive or inappropriate language, self-harm, etc.).

Please contact our Advancement Director, Lori Bellante, at lbellante@stmatthewtn.org for more information.

PAYMENT OPTIONS

Sending your child to Catholic school represents an investment in your child’s future and a financial commitment.  To make this financial commitment manageable, Saint Matthew School offers several tuition payment options including a one payment, two payments, and 10 or 12 monthly options.

The Diocese of Nashville now requires SMS to use the FACTS Tuition Management System.  See the Parent Portal under ‘Enrollment’ for more information.

Fees

An annual, non-refundable $325 book & activity fee is due at the time of enrollment or re-enrollment.  Tuition and book & activity fee includes all classroom books and supplies. Tuition also includes on-site and outside field trips (excluding 8th grade trip to Washington DC.)  Parents need only provide a backpack, lunchbox and uniforms.

Parish Investment

The full cost of educating one student at Saint Matthew School is $9,750.  Students are who baptized in the Catholic faith are eligible for a Catholic Grant of $800 per student, or tuition of $8,950.

The participating Catholic tuition rate is $7,390 and the difference of $1,560 is paid by your parish.  Formerly known as the “subsidy”, Catholic parishes pay a portion of your student’s tuition directly to the school.  To be eligible, a family must be an active, participating member of a Catholic parish in the Diocese of Nashville.

The Saint Matthew School enrollment package includes a subsidy form.  To qualify for the Parish Tuition Grant, a family must submit a subsidy form to Saint Matthew school. SMS will forward these requests to the parishes for Pastor approval.  Once approved, the home parish will send the completed subsidy form and payment directly to Saint Matthew School.

In order to receive the subsidy from Saint Matthew Church, parishioners should:

  • attend Mass faithfully
  • support the parish to the best of their ability by using the parish envelope system or electronic giving on a regular basis
  • complete a current year financial pledge form.

If you are moving to a local parish from another city, request a letter (email) of good standing from your current parish.

Tuition Assistance

The tuition assistance fund is provided through the generosity of Saint Matthew Church parishioners and friends.  Financial assistance is available to those enrolled students who are active, participating members of Saint Matthew Church and is need-based. Applicants apply online using TAADS Tuition Management System.  Applications are accepted in the spring and recipients are notified in early May.  Application can be made anytime during the year if there has been a change in financial circumstance.
