Habitat for Humanity Catholic Build

June 24-25, 2023

Saint Matthew is joining St. Henry, Christ the King, Holy Rosary, and Cathedral of the Incarnation parishes for the annual Habitat for Humanity Catholic Build on June 24-25. We will be building a home for Wanda Howard (profile below) in the Village by the Creek development in North Nashville. This is a wonderful opportunity for us to work with other Catholics in the diocese to help Wanda and her family take steps toward a better life by purchasing her own home.

Click the button below to register for one of the build days. All parishioners over the age of 16 are invited to participate in the build (16- and 17-year-olds must be accompanied by a chaperone and have a signed waiver from a parent/guardian). If you cannot join the build but would still like to support our efforts, you can make a monetary donation to offset our costs. To donate, please click the appropriate button below. Thank you for your support.

Meet the Homeowner: Wanda Hadley

Wanda has worked as a custodian at Vanderbilt University since 2009. She has cared for her 14-year-old grandson since his father (Wanda’s son) was killed in 2010. With their new Habitat home, her commute to work will be shorter, and Brandon can remain in the same high school.

Wanda says her rent has continued to increase since 2018. Her neighbors are loud in her current two-bedroom duplex. Her main motivation to own her own home is her grandson. She is ready to invest in something that will give him a sense of security. “If anything ever happens to me,” Wanda says, “my grandson, Brandon, will have a home to call his own.”

Wanda says this is her second attempt at qualifying for the Habitat homeownership program. “Getting accepted into the program means the world.” She says she is ready for the responsibility of taking care of her home and being responsible “for something that is mine.” She is excited about meeting other future Habitat homeowners and building that sense of community as they work together toward homeownership.
