The Saint Matthew Haiti Ministry proudly presents…

Saturday, September 27, at 6 p.m.
Saint Matthew Courtyard
21+ Event

For the past 25+ years, Saint Matthew has ministered to the Haitian community of Gobert through a partnership with Our Lady of Miracles parish and sister chapels. These parishes serve approximately 25,000 people and are located in a northern, rural area of Haiti.

Our continued support, alongside the leadership of Father Nicolas Floréal, and Dr. Librice, the doctor at the Gobert clinic, is helping the community meet its medical, physical, spiritual and educational needs.

Our largest annual appeal and fundraiser is Well Played: A Songwriters’ Night, which is now in its 15th year. We are hoping to build on the success of last year’s event, which raised over $44,000. We have an exciting line up featuring country music songwriters Bobby Tomberlin, Lance Miller, and Mark Narmore. They collectively have written songs for some of the biggest names in country music including Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Luke Bryan, Cody Johnson, Thomas Rhett, Reba McEntire, Rodney Atkins and more! Click on the artists’ names below to learn more about each of these iconic songwriters.

This event is adults only as beer and wine are included with your ticket.

Join us on Saturday, September 27, for a night of music, fellowship and fun! Tickets will be on sale shortly!

Mark Narmore was raised—and still resides—in Center Star, Alabama, in the shadow of the legendary music mecca Muscle Shoals. Immersed from a young age in the rich musical heritage of the Shoals studios, Mark developed a deep love for the region’s soulful sound and has spent over 37 years building a career as a successful and respected songwriter.

A 1983 graduate of Brooks High School, Mark went on to earn a degree in Commercial Music from the University of North Alabama in 1988. Early in his career, he also worked locally as a radio announcer.

Mark’s songs have been recorded by a wide range of artists across country, gospel, blues, and Americana, including Josh Turner, Reba, Brandy Clark, Alabama, Shenandoah, John Michael Montgomery, Neal McCoy, Terri Clark, Craig Morgan, Blackhawk, Carly Pearce, Tonja Rose, Chris Golden, Bernard Allison, Tenille Arts, Big Daddy Wilson, Sandy Carroll, and many more.

His breakthrough came with his first cut—“Moon Over Georgia,” recorded by Shoals supergroup Shenandoah. The song, which Mark solely penned, became a Top 5 national hit. He also co-wrote the No. 2 country hit “Like There Ain’t No Yesterday” with Walt Aldridge, recorded by Blackhawk.

Mark’s most widely recognized success is “That’s What I Love About Sunday,” recorded by Josh Turner. The song spent five weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard country chart in 2005, was named the most performed song at country radio that year, and ranked as the No. 8 Billboard country song of the 2000s decade. It also achieved gold sales status.

Over the course of his career, Mark has had songs appear on nine gold or platinum albums. He’s been a staff writer for esteemed publishers including FAME, Jody Williams Music, Reba McEntire’s Starstruck Music Group, March Music, Sony ATV Tree, and Noble Vision Music Group. He is currently affiliated with Sandmark Music Group in Muscle Shoals. Notably, he has co-written and had 16 songs recorded by Josh Turner.

In 2016, Mark was credited as a songwriter on Grammy- and Dove-nominated projects by Brandy Clark and Shenandoah. He has also released three albums with Andreas Werner on Crazy Chester Records: This Ol’ Wurlitzer, Soul Fillin’ Station, and Country Soul Funk.

In recognition of his contributions to music, Mark was honored with a Bronze Star on permanent display at the Alabama Music Hall of Fame. In 2022, he received the George Jackson Contemporary Songwriter Award from the Muscle Shoals Music Association.
