Saint Matthew Speaker Series: Life is a Pilgrimage, Not A Highway
Understanding Our Mission for the Jubilee Year
Sunday, May 4, 6 p.m., Saint Matthew Sanctuary
Saint Matthew continues it’s Speaker Series with a talk featuring Catholic speaker and writer Joan Watson on Sunday, May 4, at 6 p.m. in the Church. Her talk, Life is a Pilgrimage, Not a Highway: Understanding Our Mission for the Jubilee Year, is centered around the Jubilee Year of Hope we are celebrating as a Church in 2025.
One of the earliest places we find the word pilgrim in the Church is when Saint Augustine describes the life of the Christian – our spiritual journey – as a type of pilgrimage. Approaching life in this way helps us to understand our struggles, our relationships, and our mission.
Joan Watson is a former Saint Matthew Parishioner. She released a book focused on the Jubilee Year of Hope titled, Opening the Holy Door. Every 25 years, the special bronze Holy Door on the north side of the St. Peter’s Basilica is opened. This door, which uniquely depicts the salvation story, attracts pilgrims from across the world who receive a special blessing for passing through it.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the talk begins at 6 p.m. Light refreshments will be provided following the talk. Books will be available for purchase in the Narthex, and there will be a meet and greet after the talk.
Registrations are appreciated but not required. We hope to see you there!
