Room In The Inn at Saint Matthew

Each year, Saint Matthew Catholic Church hosts Room In The Inn to help serve the homeless community in Nashville. We host one Room In The Inn event on the third Thursday of each month from November to March.

Room In The Inn began in the winter of 1985, when former Nashville priest and the organization’s Founding Director, Father Charles Strobel, opened the doors of Holy Name Parish to individuals seeking sanctuary in the church parking lot. This simple act of kindness marked the beginning of Room In The Inn. In December 1986, four congregations committed to sheltering people experiencing homeless through March 1987. By the end of that winter, 31 congregations had joined. Now, nearly 200 congregations from a wide variety of traditions and over 7,000 volunteers shelter almost 1,500 men and women from November 1 through March 31 each season.

This year’s event dates are:

  • Thursday, November 18
  • Thursday, December 16
  • Thursday, January 20, 2022
  • Thursday, February 3, 2022
  • Thursday, February 17, 2022
  • Thursday, March 10, 2022 (second Thursday of the month)

We are in need of volunteers to help serve at each event, from set-up and tear-down to meal preparation and innkeepers.
