Lent at Saint Matthew
Ash Wednesday is March 5, marking the beginning of the Lenten season in the Church. Here is our liturgy schedule for the day:
- 6:30 a.m. Liturgy of the Word with Distribution of Ashes
- 8 a.m. – Mass/Distribution of Ashes (all school Mass)
- Noon – Liturgy of the Word with Distribution of Ashes
- 7 p.m. – Mass/Distribution of Ashes
Adoration and Confession will begin at 6 p.m. as usual on Ash Wednesday. The 8 a.m. Mass will be livestreamed, however the 7 p.m. Mass will not.Ash Wednesday is not a Holy Day of Obligation, but is strongly encouraged as it helps transition into the new liturgical season.
Stations of the Cross will be held every Friday during Lent at 6 p.m. On Good Friday, Stations will be held at 3 p.m. in the Grotto (weather permitting)
Fish Fries will be held on Friday, March 7, and Friday, April 11. These are sponsored by the Saint Matthew Men’s Club. Meals cost $10 each. Pre-orders are not required but greatly appreciated. See the menu and place your preorders here.
Our Lenten Study Group will meet on Monday evenings during Lent starting March 10. They will utilized the Formed.org series Foretold and it’s accompanying study guide.

Our Lenten Penance Service will be held Tuesday, March 11, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the Church. Visiting priest will be available. Please plan to attend.
Soup and Stations is returning on Friday, March 14. Plan to attend Stations of the Cross at 6 p.m. and stick around for a delicious community meal. The event is free, however RSVP’s are requested to ensure we have adequate food for our community.
Let Love Retreat is a Lenten morning of prayer and reflection for women on Saturday, March 22, from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This retreat will be held in the Parish Conference Center. Let Love is hosted by Dwell in Love Retreats. Learn more and get your tickets here.
Awake is a brand new event we are really excited about. This will be a night of adoration and music featuring eight professional musicians on Sunday, March 23 at 7 p.m. This event is open to the greater Nashville community and will be held in the gym. A reception will follow. More details will be announced soon.
Christ’s Suffering in the Shroud of Turin is a special presentation on the miraculous image in the Shroud of Turin as the likely burial cloth of Jesus.
